These essays serve as great escapism from the rest of your work (which is fantastic BTW).

I am truly so grateful that you decided to keep writing these. This specific kind of analysis of pop culture art is what I try to do as well, so I find this series personally inspiring. And it makes me want to re-watch Lost!

I love these essays! Glad they're back. The Season 3 cold open is one of my favorite sequences - a great followup to the Season 2 cold open. Say what you will about the middles of their seasons, but Lost nails it at season finales and premieres.

I think it's interesting that the CD Juliet plays the song "Downtown" from is in the case of the Talking Heads album Speaking in Tongues - the canonical explanation is simply that she had the CD in the wrong case, which is pretty relatable, but I always liked the theory that they had intended to use the song "This Must Be the Place (Naive Melody)" during this scene at some stage. Though it's also fun to think that if she had started playing that album from the first track she'd be listening to "Burning Down The House."

I always figured Desmond being naked here is based on the idea that apocryphally, people who get struck by lightning end up with their clothes more or less exploded off. Would make sense that having taken the full force at the center of a mysterious electromagnetic phenomenon would have similar side effects to a lightning strike.

I'm going to need to catch up again on my rewatch - past the premiere, season 3 is a lot less fresh in my mind than the first two.

loved LOST when it was first run, really enjoyed rewatching the whole series during the height of pandemic lock downs. Find your ideas more original and meaningful than most.
