Just posted a suggestion to Sarah Kendzior to consider doing what you've done perhaps start a great migration of great writers off of platform plantations which are nothing but email list landlords. Y'all deserve all the proceeds of your patrons with the technology available no need for a middleware fee cut ✊
I appreciate your taking a stand here. I know the migration will add to your workload in the short term, but I hope it will pay off in long term peace of mind and saved future emotional strife over watching substack take the devils bargain.
It is dreadful watching people sleepwalk into fascism while pretending the profit motive excuses all. “We have no choice but to enable Nazis, because money…” is just not the convincing argument they seem to think it is. Especially in a moment when the Supreme Court is handing out free passes for discrimination in the marketplace, there’s no ethical or even legal imperative to do business with Nazis and their enablers.
You signaled previously that a move was imminent so I am not surprised by this. I will continue with my subscription and look forward to hearing from you on Ghost. Your voice will be more and more valuable as we approach the 2024 general election. Wishing you the Best!
I'm a free subscriber but when I try to sign in on the Ghost site I get an error saying no such membership exists. Is signing in just something for paid subscribers?
No, it's readable, it all works - I just wasn't sure if signing in was something I was supposed to be able to do. The only other Ghost newsletter I'm on is Katz's The Racket but I'm paid tier for that one.
Oh Substack. Since you're a private company you have every right to tamp down Nazis on your platform in spite of what the "bUT Muh FReEdUMz" crowd might think. (Try wearing a Nazi armband to the office sometime and see how that goes;) But it turns out all you care about is making all the money. (Making money is fine; making money in the service of evil is not)
