I am, as usual, pretty late to this party.

But I have to say, I like the cut of your jib.

In reference to your accurate and desirable exhortation to all of us to "give a shit," I humbly submit my personal formulation of this mechanic.

For the purposes of my own vanity and amusement, I call this my "Greater Theory of Conservation of Fucks". Some people say "give a shit", some say "give a fuck". I went with column B here. For our purposes, the Fuck is the indivisible unit of, oh, let's call it "effort" that a person might exercise when they choose.

Let's start with the idea that Fucks can neither be created nor destroyed. Every person has a certain number of Fucks to give, and while there are things that can naturally happen to replenish that supply (such as solidarity, encouragement, etc), there are also a lot of actors which exist purely to drain the available supply of Fucks which could possibly be given about *anything*. They do this so that when a time arrives when people of good conscience might really *wish* they had some Fucks left to give about a given problem desperately in need of reparation, they find that the proverbial Fucks Jar is barren.

This seems like one of the biggest mechanisms by which Supremacy exhausts those who would oppose them. There's just so many issues out there demanding you Give A Fuck, and without ever making a dent in any of them, you will find yourself fresh out of Fucks to Give.

This is why I have made a practice of telling people who are willing to listen, "Guard jealously the Fucks you Choose To Give."

Some rando yelling about nonsense on your SuperPoke? Not worth that precious Fuck.

Some rando yelling about nonsense in the face of a real person, in real danger, in real life, in front of you? Very much worth giving a Fuck. But if you've been systematically drained of that resource, you may find yourself unable to do so, even if you really wish (and know) that you could, and should.

OK that's all for me, Conserve Your Fucks and use them wisely. Effort, Time, and Life are precious, do not expend them on those who have no respect for or need of them.
